My September Experience Reaching Level 8 on Google Maps

While checking my email, I was truly surprised to receive the ‘September Highlights’ email from Google Maps. It made me feel like I am part of a community where I can contribute and start this journey—especially by following a passion that drives my daily routine. Even though my contributions are unpaid, at least I get to collect insights on coffee shops—which I’m truly passionate about! I love sharing food/coffee tasting reviews and location details to bring fresh experiences to people around me.

Celebrating Khmer Culture During Pchum Ben at One More Restaurant, Boeung Kak

Hey Guides, During the Pchum Ben season, I had a wonderful dining experience at One More Restaurant in Boeung Kak, Phnom Penh, where the beautiful Khmer-inspired decorations caught my attention and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere. What I appreciated most was the restaurant’s thoughtful effort to celebrate Cambodia’s cultural traditions during this special season. The traditional-inspired decorations added character to the dining space and made the experience feel more meaningful than an ordinary restaurant visit. For me, exploring local restaurants is not only about enjoying food. It is also about discovering the atmosphere, appreciating the details, and learning how local businesses reflect the culture and traditions of their communities. My visit to One More Restaurant was a lovely opportunity to experience these elements together. A Warm Welcome Through Khmer-Inspired Decorations One of the highlights of my visit to One More Restaurant was the way the space was decorated to welcome guests during Pchum Ben. I enjoyed seeing the Khmer cultural theme reflected in the restaurant’s setting. The decorations created a festive yet peaceful atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to spend time and enjoy a meal during one of Cambodia’s most important religious and cultural seasons. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail. Thoughtful decorations can make a restaurant feel more inviting, and in this case, they helped bring a sense of Cambodian identity into the dining e

Experiencing Cambodia’s Pchum Ben Traditions at Sotosnaram Pagoda in Kampong Cham

Hey Guides, Let me share with you my trip to Sotosnaram (Chroy Thmar) Pagoda in Kampong Cham on the 11th day of Pchum Ben, which was a meaningful cultural and spiritual experience. Spending the day with my group gave me an opportunity to reconnect with my Cambodian traditions, pay respect to our ancestors, and appreciate the important role that pagodas continue to play in our communities. Pchum Ben is one of Cambodia’s most significant annual religious and cultural festivals. It is a time when families and communities come together at pagodas to make offerings, pray, remember their ancestors, and express gratitude for the generations who came before them. Beyond its religious significance, the festival reflects the values of respect, compassion, family connection, and community spirit that are deeply rooted in Cambodian culture. A Meaningful Visit with Our Group What made this visit special to me was the opportunity to share the experience with our group. Visiting a pagoda during Pchum Ben is not simply about attending a religious ceremony; it is also about spending time together, sharing a common purpose, and keeping our cultural traditions alive. As we gathered at Sotosnaram Pagoda, I felt a sense of connection with our heritage and the people around me. Moments like these remind me that, even with our busy daily routines, taking time to participate in traditional celebrations can bring us closer to our roots. The experience also reminded me of the importance of respecting

From Sharing My Experiences to Reaching for Level 8 on Google Maps

Hey Guides, Today, while checking my email, I was genuinely surprised and happy to receive my September Highlights from Google Maps. It made me stop for a moment and reflect on how this journey began and how much it has gradually become part of my daily life. When I first started contributing to Google Maps, my thinking was simple. As a journalist, I visit many places for work, events, meetings, dining, and travel. I thought, why not share my experiences, photos, and reviews on another platform while helping more people discover places across Cambodia? At the beginning, I never expected it to become a daily habit. I simply wanted to share useful information, document the places I visited, and contribute to making Google Maps more helpful for Cambodia’s local community and visitors. Little by little, one contribution became another. I started writing more reviews, uploading photos, sharing personal experiences, and documenting restaurants, hotels, cultural sites, and destinations. Before I realised it, contributing to Google Maps had become part of my everyday routine. From Level 7 to My Next Goal: Level 8! One of the most exciting parts of this journey is seeing my contributions grow and knowing that people are viewing the information I share. Seeing those numbers was incredible because every contribution started with a simple decision to share something I had experienced. Now, I am looking forward to reaching Level 8 and continuing to contribute more useful information about

Clean Energy Week 2026: Exploring Cambodia’s Path Towards a Sustainable Future

Hey Guides, Last on 15 September 2026, I attended and reported on Clean Energy Week 2026 at Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh, gaining valuable insights into the importance of clean energy in strengthening Cambodia’s energy security, supporting economic resilience, and advancing a more sustainable future. I value opportunities to attend events that bring together professionals, experts, and stakeholders to discuss issues shaping Cambodia’s future. Clean energy is one such topic because it connects environmental protection with economic development, investment, business growth, and people’s everyday lives. The event provided an opportunity to listen, learn, and explore different perspectives on Cambodia’s clean energy transition. It also reminded me of the important role journalism plays in making complex issues more accessible and understandable to the public. A Professional Experience at Raffles Hotel Le Royal Raffles Hotel Le Royal provided the setting for Clean Energy Week 2026. Located in the heart of Phnom Penh, the hotel is one of Cambodia’s well-known historic hospitality destinations, recognised for its distinctive architecture, elegant atmosphere, and longstanding place in the capital’s hospitality industry. Attending the event at this historic venue added another dimension to my professional experience. The hotel’s architectural character and refined surroundings provided a distinctive backdrop for discussions about innovation, investment, and Cambodia’s future.

    Wat Phnom Komnop (វត្តភ្នំកំណប់ / វត្តភ្នំហប់) – A Peaceful Mountain Sanctuary 🌿

Located about 44 km from Angkor Wat, this pagoda is a hidden gem well worth the trip. The drive takes you along roughly 40 km of smooth sealed highway followed by about 4 km of rural village road. The Scenic Approach The approach through the countryside sets the tone before you even arrive. Along the way, you pass: Expansive, open green rice fields Farmland lined with cassava and cashew nut plantations Natural forest greenery and massive natural boulders flanking the path Narrow, picturesque village tracks where only one car can pass at a time, keeping the area quiet and untouched The Pagoda Grounds Upon reaching the temple, you notice how harmonious the layout feels with the landscape. Instead of a single crowded complex, individual monk residences (kuti / កុដ្ឋ) are spread gently across the grounds, surrounding the main hall where devotees gather to pray, chant, and make offerings to the Sangha. A standout feature is the stone pond crowned with a sacred Naga statue. Clear mountain water flows into it continuously from the hills above, creating a steady, soothing sound. Massive boulders covered in wild moss and greenery surround the grounds, providing incredible natural photo spots and quiet corners to sit and listen to nature. The 300-Step Climb A stairway of about 300 concrete steps leads up to the mountain summit. Along the climb and at the top, you will find several sacred shrines and shrines for veneration, paired with peaceful, elevated views of the countryside below.

A Weekend Seafood Buffet Experience at Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh

Hey Guides! I recently had the chance to spend part of my weekend enjoying the seafood buffet at Market Café Restaurant & Lounge, Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, and it turned out to be a really enjoyable dining experience. What I liked most was the variety of food available. There was a good selection of fresh seafood and premium dishes, giving us the opportunity to try different flavours and enjoy the meal at our own pace. For me, a buffet is always more enjoyable when there is enough variety to share, taste, and discover together rather than simply choosing one dish. The atmosphere at Market Café was also something I appreciated. It felt warm, comfortable, and relaxing, making it a nice place to spend time with friends or family over a weekend meal. Sometimes, the atmosphere can make as much difference as the food itself, especially when you want to slow down after a busy week. I particularly enjoyed the Friday and Saturday dinner experience, when the live band created a more lively atmosphere. Having music playing while enjoying seafood and conversations around the table made the evening feel more special without taking away from the dining experience. For families, the Sunday family brunch is another option worth considering. I can imagine it being a nice way for parents and children to spend part of their weekend together, with plenty of food choices and a relaxed environment. What I personally enjoyed most was not simply the amount of food on the buffet. It was the overall e

New road but not added to google maps yet. How to add it to the maps?

Yesterday, I drove to Leang Dai commune (ឃុំលាងដៃ), Leang Dai village (ភូមិលាងដៃ) in the Angkor Thom district, Siem Reap Province. When I passed and crossed the north gate of Angkor thom I saw a new road just built. But seem like not existing in google maps yet. And I have used google maps to help me navigate the destination I set, but it keep saying to me turn left turn right…because the road not existed and insist me to not going. Because I am the local here, so I know it well then I keep driving on the new road without caring of the sound instruction in google map. Finally I reach the new dam that built by the Siem Reap authority to redirect water flow out of Siem Reap town to the Baray west. And in this image is the new road built but not existing in map yet. The distance is arond 2021 m. So my questions to google or community is. How do I add this road to the maps, so it can help people to navigate and reroute the traffic at some points. Also here there are lots of attractions, people can come with family to enjoy their weekend, group gathering, group fishing or sunset meal as they like. It help to release people stress, tension after work and improve their quality of weekend. Thanks for your time to read and share. #Googlemaps #Cambodia #localguide #community #contribution
