Cambodia Local Guides Connect
Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we deliberately do not, and the choices you have.
Last updated: 16 September 2026
Cambodia Local Guides Connect is a community website run by volunteers. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to information when you visit it. It is written to match what the site actually does.
Who we are
This site is run by volunteers from the Cambodia Local Guides Connect community. We are an independent, community-run project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Google.
What we collect
- Content you choose to submit — posts, comments, event RSVPs, tips and community reports. Anything you post publicly is visible to anyone who visits the site.
- Administrator account details, if you hold one — a username, an email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a bcrypt hash. We never store or log your password in plain text.
- Push notification details, if you switch notifications on — described below.
- Basic technical information that any web server receives, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Our hosting provider processes this to deliver the site and to produce aggregate statistics.
Cookies
The site sets exactly one cookie, and only for administrators.
- admin-session — set when an administrator signs in, deleted when they sign out, and valid for 7 days. It is httpOnly (not readable by JavaScript), Secure on the live site, and SameSite=Lax. It holds a signed session token, not your password.
- There are no advertising, tracking or third-party cookies anywhere on this site.
- Because the only cookie is strictly necessary for signing in, we do not show a cookie-consent banner.
Stored in your browser, not on our servers
The site keeps a small amount of information in your browser only. We cannot read it from our servers.
- Your language choice (English or Khmer).
- Your site settings and, if you use notifications, your notification preferences and unread count.
- A short-lived cache of public lists — events, posts, gallery, reports and tips — so pages load faster.
- Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it. The site will simply ask for your preferences again.
Push notifications
Push notifications are optional and only start if you explicitly enable them.
If you do, your browser gives us a push subscription — a delivery endpoint and two public keys — along with your device type. We store that in our database so we can send community updates. We do not receive your name, email address or location through this.
Turning notifications off in the site settings unsubscribes the device, and subscriptions are also disabled automatically once a browser reports that they are no longer valid.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand roughly how many people visit and how quickly the site loads.
They are cookieless. Nothing is stored on or read from your device, and visitors are counted using a one-way hash derived from the request that resets every day. That means you cannot be followed across days or across other websites, and we only ever see aggregate figures — never a profile of an individual.
This data is processed by Vercel Inc. in the United States.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of service providers. Each only handles what it needs to.
- Vercel — hosts the site and provides the analytics described above (United States).
- Cloudflare R2 — stores the images, documents and report files that the site displays.
- Google Maps — only if you click a location link, the map opens on Google’s site under Google’s own privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces are downloaded at build time and served from our own domain, so your browser does not connect to Google in order to display text.
How long we keep things
Community content stays until you delete it or an administrator removes it. Push subscriptions are removed when you unsubscribe. Aggregate analytics are retained by Vercel under their own policy and contain no identifier for you.
Your choices
- Read without posting — the community board does not require you to register an account.
- Turn push notifications off at any time in the site settings.
- Clear your browser’s site data to remove everything stored locally.
- Ask us to remove content you submitted, or ask what we hold about you, using the contact details below.
Children
This is a public community space and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this page
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
Contact
For any privacy question or request, contact us through our community channels. We are volunteers, so please allow us a little time to reply.
